Bob Brinley, who now serves as chairman of the company, originally started the family-owned business in 1968 on the breathtaking Caribbean island of St. Kitts. After leaving his job on Wall Street in 2002, Bob’s son Zach became president of the award-winning company. The goal: use only top-quality ingredients to produce the best rum possible. Mission accomplished! They launched their first flavor, vanilla, that very same year. Zach and his family recently launched their Spiced Rum in 2011 after years in the making. Natural flavors of vanilla, exotic island spices, cloves, oranges, and nutmeg fill your taste buds with overwhelming joy.

After realizing they had created something spectacular, they decided it was time to hit the United States market. Sold store-to-store and bar-to-bar, the Brinley family dove into the marketplace by themselves, head-on. The company was eventually picked up by a well-established liquor distributor based in New Jersey, Opici. This company has been a great part of helping the Brinleys grow their company.
The five flavors of Shipwreck – spiced, mango, coffee, coconut, and vanilla – continue to grow each year. The name is based on an actual British troop ship that plummeted to the bottom of the ocean near the St. Kitts shoreline in 1782.
