Penfolds has been crafting wine for over 170 years. For the big celebration, a fortified Tawny wine was released with a vintage dating back to the birth of Max Schubert, pioneering Australian winemaker. The bottle is known as Bin 170 and was released in London which is the birthplace of Dr. Christopher Rawson Penfolds. Max Schubert created the Grange line of wines for Penfolds. The National Trust of South Australia has listed Penfolds Grange as an official heritage icon. But that is not their only honor! Chief winemaker, Peter Gago, has been noted as the ‘Winemaker of Winemaker’s by Institute of Masters of Wine. Because of this prestigious award, Penfolds released 12 hand-crafted bottles of Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon. These bottles were prices at $168,000 AUD .. EACH! This is roughly $128,000 USD.
