Since it was founded in 1824, The Macallan has built a strong reputation as having amazing single malt whiskies. The Macallan process has been perfected over generations due to passionate craftsmanship and the use of natural materials. Its founder, Alexander Reid, was a barley farmer, giving him the means (surplus barley), as well as experience and knowledge. The Macallan single malts are Speyside single malts, distilled in Strathspey in an area around the River Spey.

The Macallan calls the foundation of its single malts the “Six Pillars”: Small stills, finest cut, oak casks, natural color, its spiritual home and the Macallan spirit itself. Distilling in small stills helps to create a distinct fruity and rich character and the maturation in special seasoned oak casks gives the single malts varying levels of oak on the palate. The “curiously small copper stills” are famous for their unique shape and size, which were designed to give the scotch the most contact with the copper. This contact with the copper gives The Macallan single malt scotches a “new make” character and full-bodied, fruit packed flavors.
